No Coffee Update

It’s been one week since I decided to stop drinking coffee and I realized I haven’t mentioned it all in the last few days.

How’s it going? Good.  I haven’t missed it much.  The first couple of days were rough as far as having a headache and feeling tired.  I think I thought about it more over the weekend because I normally wake up and make coffee right away.  During the week I would usually drink the coffee at work.  I did go to Starbucks at lunch yesterday to get an Unsweetened Green Tea with a gift card I had.

This was my first time trying the tea from Starbucks. I can picture it being very refreshing on a really hot day.

Am I going to continue? Yes, for now I will remain coffee free.

Do I feel any benefits? Not that I can tell yet but I’ll keep you posted.

I think the most difficult time will be fall/winter when all of the different holiday creamers (that I love) are out.  Last year, the Pumpkin Spice and Peppermint Mocha were my favorite.

Maybe knowing that the Pumpkin Spice contains the following ingredients will be a great reminder.

Sweet potato hash made with leftover steak from the other night, 2 eggs and a mix of strawberries, pineapple and banana.

Ground pork, brussel sprouts, cabbage, green beans, kale, carrots and red peppers. I realize this doesn’t look very good but it tasted great!

And some of this leftover cucumber salad.

cabbage and meatball bake

I know you’re surprised that we had something with cabbage.  Smile  There weren’t any pieces big enough to make stuffed cabbage, so Dane decided to make something similar.  I loved this combination.

Sauce Ingredients:

  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp coconut milk
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp parsley
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • salt & pepper to taste

Meatball Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1/2 celery stalk
  • 1 tsp parsley
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • salt & pepper to taste

Add sauce and meatballs to baking dish along with cabbage chopped into smaller pieces.  Combine and bake at 350 for 2 hours.

I walked on the treadmill for 50 minutes while watching the 3rd episode of Downton Abbey.  I heard that if you thought the first 2 episodes were just “eh” episode 3 is where is gets good and they were right!

Do you like the flavored coffee creamers?

Have you ever had the iced green tea from Starbucks?

OMG on that creamer! I used to love that stuff but this past fall it just tasted too sweet and fake for me. I did however drink many many peppermint mochas and pumpkin spice lattes from Starbucks haha!

I watched the first episode (not sure I even got through it) of Downtown Abby, so you’re saying stick to it through the third episode? I need something to watch, I’ll try it again!

Yes, give it a shot! I’m excited to watch the 4th episode now. Although when I was looking for a link to provide, I saw a picture of something that happens later on, so I’m kinda bummed about that!

No creamer for me! I limit my coffee and if I use cream it’s organic 1/2 & 1/2. Kim, I’m curious, I am loving your Whole 30 and food posts! I love your attitude about food and your body! What is the difference between Paleo and Whole 30? Could you reccomend a cookbook or reading for beginners? I don’t know if I could (or would) go all Paleo but I’m interested Thank You!

Libby!!! :) Honestly the only difference is Whole30 is an ultra strict paleo for 30 days. A lot of people that follow the paleo diet make treats with ingredients that are considered paleo but not allowed on Whole30. Like paleo pancakes and paleo muffins. We also use a little bit of honey and pure maple syrup now which was a no-no on Whole30.

I love sb green tea. The creamers are no big thing anymore. I don’t like how they taste, but I used to love them. Once I cut sugar out those went, and then looking at the ingredients cured me lol.

May the (coffee-free) force be with you. I am tired just thinking about it. :)

You always say that your ground meat / veggie bowls don’t look good, but every time I see a pic I want a bite! Hahaha.

I quit drinking coffee in October 2011, and I’m so glad I did! I wasn’t intending to do it forever, but after a few weeks, I realized I felt a million times better without it. I, too, missed the flavored creamers–until I discovered David’s Tea! The flavors are AMAZING, and I actually enjoy that much more than I ever did the coffee (I’m not affiliated with them in any way–I just love their tea). Maybe to replace the flavored creamers, you could find a flavored tea you really enjoy? Just a thought!

I’m not much into flavored coffee creamers. Just too sweet for me. When I finally transitioned to black coffee, it made it really easy to order at coffee shops: Medium Americano. (I like it strong!) It’s cheaper, too.

I don’t have coffee everyday, so I don’t typically have any headaches or withdrawal symptoms. Glad things are going okay for you!

Well when you list the creamer ingredients like that it just sounds…. not delicious. I only made it through the first 2 episodes of Downton Abbey so I guess I need to give it another try!

Kim that is some serious willpower! I don’t think I could give up coffee (apart from when I’ve been pregnant and suffered morning sickeness).
