Preparing for Whole30 – Part 1

Yesterday on the way home from work, I stopped at a local whole foods store to stock up on a few items for Whole30.

The closest Whole Foods is over an hour away, so I wanted to see if this store had any of the items listed on the Whole30 Pantry Guide.

First thing you’ll notice is, there’s a whole lot of coconut goin’ on.  :)

Thai Kitchen Coconut Milk is made from the pressing of fresh, ripe coconut meat. Use for curries, satay sauces, baked or frozen desserts, and drinks.  I’ll be using this in my morning coffee.  I’ve been trying to get myself used to no sweetener and it’s definitely a big change.  I’ve been a light and sweet girl for years!

Artisana Coconut Butter is freshly made from whole coconut flesh (not just the oil) and puree’d into a fiberous, densely nutritious spread. Our butter melts in your mouth with full coconut taste and aroma, while giving you the whole coconut nutrition: oil, dietary fiber, protein, vitamins and minerals.

No additives – only pure, unadulterated coconut.

Ingredients: Organic Raw Coconut

Made in a facility that processes tree nuts, but does not process any peanuts, gluten, dairy or soy.

I’ve never tried coconut butter but I’ve heard great things about it so I’m excited to see what it’s all about.

Our Organic Coconut Oil is made from coconuts grown on family farm in Clombia and the Philippines. It is expeller pressed without the use of any hexane and processed according to strict organic guidelines. It can be used in place of butter when cooking and frying at medium-high heat and is excellent for baking, due to its neutral flavor.

Our Organic Coconut Oil can also be used as a moisturizer for body and hair care. To liquefy, place jar in warm water. Massage through hair or into skin and rinse thoroughly.

This is another thing I haven’t tried but heard a lot about.

Coconut Aminos are a soy sauce substitution and you can read more about them here.

Purity Farms Ghee (Clarified Butter) is made from Grade AA Sweet Cream Certified Organic** butter. Through a traditional Indian method, we cook the butter until the water and milk solids are removed clarifying the butter. The result is ‘traditional’ Ghee – a rich, golden, semi-soft spread for the best in cooking, baking, or sautéing. The taste – superb!

Coconut Flour is a delicious, healthy alternative to wheat and other grain flours. It is very high in fiber, low in digestible carbohydrates, a good source of protein and gluten free. It lends baked goods an incomparably rich texture and a unique, natural sweetness. You can replace up to 20% of the flour called for in a recipe with Coconut Flour, adding an equivalent amount of additional liquid to the recipe.

Shredded coconut is rich in coconut fat, fiber and flavor.

SunButter® Organic Creamy is made from sunflower seeds and without hydrogenated oil or added sugars and salts.

That’s what I have so far.  We’ll be doing some more shopping on Sunday to stock up on fresh veggies, fruit and meat.

What were some of your Whole30 staples?

Cool! Happy you have the SunButter. Let us know what you think of it — and what you do with it. I’m always looking for new recipes, partly because I blog for SunButter but also because I’m interested in how to prepare for a Whole 30. Take care ~ looking forward to following!
