Another Lesson Learned

Well, would you like the good news first or the bad news first?  Ok, we’ll go with the good first.  I left work a little early yesterday to make it to the 5:45 Group Power class.  I set everything up and even added a little bit more weight this time.  Bad news – About halfway through class I started getting a headache.  I had plenty of water throughout the day but I didn’t eat a whole lot yesterday.  I didn’t have anything but a little bit of celery and hummus a couple of hours before class.  Yeah, that was stupid.  By the time class was done, I felt weak, had the shakes and was sure I was going to vomit.

I walked out to my car and drank some more water.  For a split second, I considered calling Dane to come get me because I wasn’t sure I could even drive.  I didn’t call him and made it home safely.  His parents and grandma were over.  Burgers were being grilled (veggie burger for me) and veggies were roasting in the oven.  The thought of eating made me feel even more sick.  I sat down at the table and took one bite of my veggie burger and knew I couldn’t eat any more.  I stared at my food for awhile before excusing myself from the table.  I took a shower, laid down in bed and stayed there for the night.  I actually felt like I had a really bad hangover.

I know, I know..you need fuel for workouts.  I definitely learned my lesson.  I’m feeling much better this morning but I’m bummed that I didn’t get to hang with Dane’s parents some more before they left and I missed the Olympics!  I can already tell I’m going to be going through Olympic withdrawal next week.  Anyone else?

Have you ever felt sick after a workout from not fueling properly?

  1. [...] After dinner we went to a local bar that we used to hang out at all of the time when we first started dating.  I drank water all night – so proud of myself.  I knew I wanted to get up and go to Group Power class this morning.  I went and I felt so much better than Wednesday. [...]
