A different kind of taper

I apologize for being such a Debbie Downer lately.  I thought I was getting better after taking the Zpack, despite my ears being plugged but  yesterday I just really felt blah.  My ears were still completely plugged and the right one was making an awful whistling noise when I blew my nose.  I had sinus pressure, my glands were still swollen and I had very little energy.  I made it at work until noon and then I knew I had to do something.

After reviewing my symptoms, the doctor looked in my ears and found no wax but lots of fluid.  I was diagnosed with Eustachian Tube Dysfunction and prescribed a Prednisone taper.  I have to take them for 9 days starting with 3 a day and tapering down to 1 a day. Some of you have marathon training tapers…I get to taper steroids.  ;) I should start feeling some relief in 48 hours.    I really hope so because this is 8 days now that I’ve been dealing with this.  I’m ready to feel like myself again!

The morning started with some vanilla greek yogurt and granola.

Followed by a banana.

Dane’s sister is visiting from CT.  She dropped me off at work in the morning and headed to the beach.  I called her to come pick me up so I could go to the doctor and she brought me a smoothie.  I think it was blueberry banana.

I’ve been meaning to buy multivitamins for a long time so while I was at CVS, I picked up some Gummy Vites.

When we got home, I had some carrots and hummus.

And a small piece of chocolate.

Dane made Chicken Marsala, mashed sweet potatoes/carrots and sugar snap peas for dinner.  Delicious.

After dinner his sister reminded me that she had never been out for Frozen Yogurt, so I changed my clothes, grabbed my keys and we were out the door.

She really liked it!  CT needs to get their act together.  :)

I hope you’re having a wonderful week.  Can you believe it’s Thursday already?  I feel like I haven’t accomplished anything.

Hang in there, kiddo! Ear pain sucks, I have ear problems too. last year my ears were in such rotten shape they were bleeding. Steroids do help and maybe you’ll have temporary super-human strength ;) Feel better quick! (Also, if you don’t already have an ENT, get one STAT!) Oh, also, your dinner looks amazing! Recipe?

      Thank you…this sucks! :)

I will try to get the recipe out of him and post it. He just throws a bunch of things together without measuring and it turns out amazing. Jerk. lol :)

I know that pain all too well and it does suck. I don’t make enough wax either and my doc said the inside of my ears looked like parchment paper. He gave me some drops to put in my ear too and they felt amazing. I’ll look at the bottle when I get home and tell you the name, that way if you’re not better in a couple days maybe you can ask about them for some.

I cook like your dude, approximate measurements will be totally fine! I just need to know what goes in it! :)

I hope it makes you feel better! And, it should also make your food taste extra amazing! :)

Too funny..I think we just commented on each others blogs at the same time. :)

I hope it works, too..the swelling has gone done a bit but I’m still plugged. Hopefully by tomorrow my hearing will return. :)

For such a brief course of therapy no prednisone taper is really needed. You can just use a high dose for a week to 10 days, then stop. See this article on this topic. http://drpullen.com/prednisonetaper
