Decisions Decisions

Good Morning and Happy Friday Eve!  Yesterday seemed like Thursday all day to me.  I hate that!  Speaking of yesterday, I had my weekly date with the scale.  Remember what happened last week?  Well, I’m happy to report that there were no tears this week.  :)  I was down 2 pounds which means I am officially out of the 170′s!!!  So happy to be out of that decade and I never want to go back.

I’m thrilled to be down, but I’m not sure I’m diggin’ the evening weigh in thing.  I end up torturing myself ALL day because I don’t want to eat too much or drink too much to make me gain weight.  I didn’t eat anything after lunch and I drank very little water, so by the time I headed to my meeting, I was feeling lightheaded and STARVING.

I can’t weigh in on any weekday mornings because of work and I already tried the Saturday morning meeting.  Although, I don’t plan on drinking, Friday night is still the night that we will most likely go out to dinner.  I’d rather not have my official weigh in the next morning.  I’ve been trying to decide if I really need the meeting and even Weight Watchers for that matter.

For one week, I tracked my Weight Watchers points AND counted calories using MyFitnessPal.  For the this past week, I’ve only counted calories.  No points.  I have nothing bad to say about Weight Watchers and I know plenty of people that have been very successful on the program.

I decided to go back to meetings 16 weeks ago.  In 16 weeks, I’ve lost just over 6 lbs.  I am not blaming the program.  I’m fully aware that you get out what you put in.  I’ve even made it very clear that I haven’t given it my all.  I’m just wondering if I can be more successful having a Wednesday or Thursday morning weigh in at home while counting calories for free online.  What are your thoughts?

Yesterday morning I went to the gym and completed Week 5 Day 1 of Ease into 5k.  I felt great, despite the fact that I was sweating my butt off when I was done.

I always feel like I am sweating more than everyone else at the gym.  Like it’s not normal!

I had 5,000 steps before 6:00am.

There’s not much to say about my eating today because I had less than 500 calories all day. (before my meeting)   When I got home, I was ready for dinner.  We made Baked Buffalo Tenders and some Alexia roasted potatoes.  It was quick, easy and delicious.

After dinner, I realized I was just shy of my Bodybugg goals, so I went for a quick walk around the neighborhood.

Bodybugg Stats
Calories – 2,204 (I changed my calorie allowance from 1,700 to 1,400 on the BB site, so it changed my calorie burned goal from 2,300 to 2,150)
Steps – 10,650
Activity – 1:17

I also signed up for another 5k today.  On June 10, I’ll be participating in the 6th Annual “Change Your Life Flagler 5k.”  I will be done with the Ease into 5k program by then, so I’m hoping that I will see a great improvement in my time.

Have a great day!

Congrats on the 2 lb weight loss!! I hope my weigh in tomorrow is as good as yours! I do WW also and I absolutely love them. I’ve been going 18 weeks tomorrow and I’ve lost 30.4 lbs so far. I have a friend who also joined same exact week as me, but doesn’t track her food nor count her points. She just shows up to weigh in and sometimes goes to the mtgs. She works out at the gym I believe Monday-Friday and has lost about 45 lbs. She’s also wondering if she “needs” WW. I can’t speak for anybody but myself, I love them and will continue to go. I’ve heard good things about the MFP site. Everybody is different and we have to do what we feel is right for us. Maybe you don’t officially “quit” WW but just don’t go weigh in for 3-4 weeks and do the calorie counting and MFP and see how successful you are and then you can make a better decision one way or the other.

Thanks Kim..that’s a good idea. My monthly pass is good until June 3. Good luck at your weigh in tomorrow!!! :)

Do you “need” WW? Only you can answer that! I know I do. I need the accountability. When I don’t go to WW…and this is not my first rodeo with them…I put off weighing. If I’ve had a bad week, I’ll wiegh in tomorrow…or the next day. The next thing I know I haven’t seen the scale in weeks. (And I probably don’t want to!) So, meetings help me keep things under control. Do what works for you. :-)

BTW…tried your turkey burgers last night. Everyone loved them! I’ll be making them again.

Thanks Candy. I do know that actually going to the meeting motivates a lot of people. Glad you liked the turkey burgers! :)

Just eat like you normally would any other day before your meeting. Sure, you might be up a little the first week, but after that it will all even out. I know your goal is to lose weight, but I try to look at it from a more global perspective, not a week to week basis. If I gain one week I know that I am still having success because I am at the meeting and I will come again back the next week.

The number on the scale is just one part of WW. Personally, I have told myself multiple times that I don’t need WW and have never been successful once I stopped going. You may be different, but there is something about the accountability of the meetings.

I’m SO sick of seeing gains on the scale that I’m a total freak about eating the day of. Which is why I want to WI in the morning to avoid that whole ordeal.

Part of me knows that the number on the scale is only a part of this whole weight loss journey but I’ve been at it for a long time. I want to see the number go down even though I know things won’t really change much once I reach my goal. I want to be able to say that I DID IT. Like I said in my post, this has nothing to do with WW, it’s just me. My sister (who lives less than a mile from me) is talking about doing the same thing. We’ve talked about weighing in together weekly. Thank you for your input. :)

I just re-read what I wrote earlier, and realized I didn’t make my point very nicely. Sorry about that! Sometimes I forget that you can’t see me nicely smiling while I type. :) Hehehe. I agree with what you said below, about the blog being a great accountability tool – I use mine for that too! Whatever you choose to do, I know you will do great! :)

Oh no..I didn’t take it like that at all. :) Sorry I went on a tangent.

I was on WW once before. I lost over 40lbs and started running. I felt great and was shedding the pounds easily. I had a conflict with meetings and my small kids so I quit and went on my own. I reached my goal weight but I had no support in keeping the weight off. I knew how to lose but not maintain. I gained the weight back, plus. This time I am counting on the WW program to teach me how to keep it off and I think the weekly weigh ins are key for me. This is just my story but I do agree with Rachel (above) that just eating normal on WI day would be easier. btw, speaking of food, how do you fix those chicken strips? They look so good!

Hi Libby! The funny thing is, I think I’ve become a pro at maintaining. My weight “pretty much” stayed the same for 6 months. I have a great support system not only through this blog but with other friends I’ve made along the way.

The chicken strips are so easy! I bought the skinless boneless tenders from my grocery store (you can cut up breasts or cutlets). I dip them in buffalo sauce, then dip them in panko breadcrumbs and bake at 400 for about 25 minutes. :)

Whether you stay with WW is your decision, but I’m with Racheal…if you do stay, just eat as you would any week…one meal or one day is not going to make a major difference if you count the points.

  6. 19

I’m with Racheal and foodrefashionista, too. It’ll all even out in the end, even if it’s a slight gain at first, and your stomach will be happier with more food in it. =)

  7. 21

You look like me after I run! I just found your blog and I love it! I’m working at losing weight too and I’ve done WW in the past, but now I count calories. Nothing bad to say about WW, I just chose to do it this way and, when I stick to it, it works for me. I think with any plan, it mostly comes down to willpower. No matter which plan you’re on, if you eat too many calories or you don’t exercise enough, you’ll gain or you’ll at least maintain. So it’s up to us to find that willpower within ourselves. I lose mine a lot. Sometimes once a day, sometimes for days on end. It’s those times that I need help the most, but I know that determination is there, whenever I’m ready to tap into it!

  8. 23

WW is essential. It’s better than just counting calories because it encourages healthy eating. The new plan with the free fruit proves that. I used to a 100 calorie pack over a banana but those days are long gone. You have been on the plan long enough to follow it without paying. I don’t attend meetings but do the online but have gone years without paying for the online and still followed the plan.

Nice job staying away from drinking and with your loss this week! You earned it!

Congrats on your weight loss. Everyone is different, so there’s no one way to lose weight and keep it off. It really does come down to motivation and taking little steps each day to live a happier, healthier life. I’ve been at the weight loss thing for almost 40 years and became a lifetime WW member 20 years ago. It’s what works for me. Research shows that people who attend meetings/have support lose 3 times more than those who go it alone. They key is to find your “support,” whether at meetings or here on your blog.

Best of luck. When you finally figure out the weight loss thing, it’s amazing. It’s like having a key that you want to share with everyone!! So don’t give up. If I can do it -a chubby kid with a huge appetite raised my an overweight, emotional eating mom – anyone can!!
